South Calgary – Basement Kids Playroom

As part of this basement development, our clients had a fun and imaginative request—they wanted to create a secret room just for their kids to play, explore, and enjoy. We saw the space beneath the stairs as the perfect hidden nook and designed a custom built-in bookshelf that cleverly conceals the entrance. This transitional piece was thoughtfully crafted to provide easy access while keeping the space discreet, adding an element of surprise and delight.

Once inside, the magic truly unfolds. A whimsical wall mural brings the secret hideaway to life, sparking creativity and wonder. It’s a space designed to inspire imagination—a little world tucked away where their kids can dream, play, and simply be kids. We’re so excited for their children to enjoy this special hideout for years to come. It’s not just a secret room—it’s a memory-making space that captures the joy of childhood and the magic of thoughtful design.

“We approached Maria (Uniik Design) for our basement renovation. We had an unfinished basement; a complete blank canvas. We had ideas on how to configure it but Maria enabled us to put it into practise. She asked the proper questions and really got to know our style, before selecting finishes and presenting them to us, creating an efficient and pleasant process (we had a very young baby at that time… so efficiency and diligence were key!). As with any renovation, there were some timing and material/stock challenges however the finished product was as close to perfect as it could have been!
